In 2006 two longtime friends and professional musicians Chris Roberts and Bennie Kendrick were given the vision to plant a church in Eastern Oklahoma County with the express purpose to know Christ and make Him known. Both had served on staff in traditional churches, been a part of the evening Falls Creek worship band, and led worship around the country in their contemporary worship band. Chris also contacted longtime friend Josh Sweet. Josh was one of Chris’ former students, and at the time was serving as a minister to students in the Bethany area. Chris asked Josh if he would like to be a part of a new church plant. Roberts, Kendrick, and Sweet approached the State Baptist Convention, local Baptist association, and EastPoint Church began as a mission of First Baptist Church Choctaw, Oklahoma.

The church began meeting at the Midwest City Community Center and established a small office at a nearby office complex. Each week the technical crew set up a stage, lighting, chairs, and A/V equipment with the purpose of providing EastPoint Church an opportunity to corporately glorify God through genuine worship and biblical teaching. One of the basic heartbeats of the church has been to love God and love people, fulfilling EastPoint’s purpose statement of “making much of Jesus by knowing Him and making Him known.”

EastPoint Church never sought out a building and recognized that while a building could provide great opportunities, it would also carry a certain weight and burden associated with facilities and grounds upkeep. EastPoint Church has always believed that the church should live within its means and should not seek elaborate facilities or live as a slave to debt. The vision has always been to be in the community, not just in the church building. Today under the leadership of Lead Pastor Chris Roberts, Associate Pastor Cody Bryan, Associate Pastor Josh Sweet, and the EastPoint leadership team, the church continues its mission to know Christ and make Him known. The church holds to the values of the early church and expresses them in a contemporary style as they reach out to young adults and children.
